Hull Covered Risks

Marine Hull insurance covers physical damage to the vessel itself against the following specified perils:

Fire & Explosion

Physical loss or damage to the vessel caused by fire breaking out on board or explosion of machinery, boilers, or fuel systems.

Stranded, Grounded, Sunk or Capsized

Vessel running aground, becoming stranded on a sandbar, sinking, or capsizing due to adverse sea conditions or navigational incidents.

Overturning or Derailment of Land Conveyances

Loss arising from the overturning or derailment of land conveyances used during transit of the vessel or its components.

Collision with External Object

Damage caused by collision or contact of the vessel with any external object other than water — including docks, jetties, or other craft.

Discharge at Port of Distress

Costs and losses arising from forced discharge of cargo at a port of distress following an insured peril during the voyage.

General Average Sacrifice

Contribution required when a voluntary sacrifice is made to save the vessel and remaining cargo from a common peril at sea.

Jettison

Loss from cargo or equipment deliberately thrown overboard to lighten the vessel and avert a more serious peril during the voyage.

Available Hull Extensions

  • Institute War & Strikes Clauses (Hulls) — covers loss caused by war, piracy, mines, and hostile acts against the vessel
  • Machinery Breakdown Extension — covers sudden and unforeseen breakdown of propulsion and auxiliary machinery
  • Collision Liability (Running Down Clause) — covers the vessel owner's legal liability arising from collisions with other vessels
  • Salvage & Sue and Labour Charges — recovers reasonable costs incurred to avert or minimise an insured loss

  • Wear and tear, gradual deterioration, or corrosion of the vessel
  • Unseaworthiness at commencement of voyage if known to the assured
